Exciting New Developments in Snowdonia at Blauenau Ffestiniog
Work has started on a major regeneration of the town centre. The main project is centred around Ffestiniog narrow gauge rail station, four huge slate pillars at the entrance will announce a series of wide flat plazas broken up by slate sculptures. This wide open space will open up breath taking views of the surrounding mountains. Work is expected to be finished by the summer and is being co-ordinated by Blaenau Ymlaen a dedicated group set up to bring together various regeneration schemes for Blaenau Ffestiniog.
A further major developments is the exciting new mountain bike trails near Llechwedd Slate Mines on the outskirts of town. No half measures here! Four new DH trails serviced by a dedicated uplift road with plans for a dedicated uplift provider, and a blue grade XC trail around Tanygrisian Lake and Hydro Power Station. The designer for the trails is Architrail led by Phil Saxena, well known for his design work on the World Cup 4X Circuit.
Within a 20 mile radius with the Blaenau trails at the centre you will have the Nant Gwrlheryrn National DH Track, trails at Betws-Y-Coed, Penmachno and Coed-Y-Brenin. There will also be a conference centre, café, wash down and maintenance areas for bikes and showers for cyclists.
The bike trials are expected to be finished by May and the buildings by June. At some time in the future it is hoped that major events and competitions will be staged at this new Mountain Bike Centre. This project is being co-ordinated by Antur Stiniog a dedicated group set up to turn the Ffestiniog area into a centre of excellence for outdoor pursuits such as mountain biking, hiking, climbing, fishing and canoeing.
